INSIDE OUT NEUPERLACH
Community Art project in Neuperlach's public space
since 29 June

The people of Neuperlach are part of the international participatory art project INSIDE OUT by the well-known French action artist JR.
The large artwork on the buildings, bridges and squares was created as a joint project with citizens of all generations. Photos of committed people in the neighbourhood were taken over months and together with them, more than 700 large-format portraits were pasted on the façades of Neuperlach for the Neighbourhood Week. Through the joy of the joint realisation of the artwork within the framework of an urban development project and the visible impressive result, people are encouraged to continue to actively participate in the shaping of their neighbourhood in order to ensure a sustainable and beautiful life in their neighbourhood. The large-format portraits are posted in Neuperlach's urban space, on buildings, squares and bridges: at the Christus Kirche and Lätare Kirche, on the pedestrian bridges at Quiddestraße and Fritz-Schäffer-Straße near the shaere, at the former Festspielhaus/ Quiddestraße 17.
The INSIDE OUT project is a global participatory art platform launched in 2011 by French artist JR. Based on JR's own artistic practice, the project helps individuals and communities set a mark by exhibiting large-scale black and white portraits in public spaces. Over the past ten years, more than 500 000 people in 152 countries and territories have participated in the Inside Out Project. Through their "actions", communities around the world have inspired collaborations and conversations.
For the lighthouse project of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), INSIDE OUT in Neuperlach is all about co-creating liveable and climate-friendly neighbourhoods. The artwork makes the people who are committed to the community visible in the urban space, it shows the people who actively participate in the life of their neighbourhood and help shape the future of Neuperlach. The portraits of the people inspire conversations, empower the sense of neighbourliness and provide the background for festivals, concerts, neighbourhood meetings as well as workshops and events of the NEB project.
