Opening of the NEBourhoods Nest Stool for people, animals and plants
Friday, 5 July 2024, 12-2 pm,
Square in front of Charles-de-Gaulle-Straße 2a (exit at the back of PEP)
Trees, perennials and edible plants, comfortable seating and sunbathing decks, sun canopies and nesting aids for birds, bats and wild bees: The seating sculpture, which will celebrate its topping-out ceremony on the forecourt of the PEP in Wohnring at the beginning of July, combines habitats for people, animals and plants.
The possibility of cohabitation was at the forefront of the development of the demonstrator, which the team of the NEBourhoods project partner Studio Animal-Aided Design developed together with students from the Vienna University of Technology, Department of Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning under Prof. Dr. Thomas E. Hauck and Prof. Dr. Susann Ahn in Neuperlach: How can open space planning and urban development designs and scenarios for the possible coexistence of people, animals and plants be designed?
The demonstrator was developed in several stages using the Animal-Aided Design method: As part of a target group analysis, animal species were determined together with the population in order to then define the corresponding needs for these on the part of the experts. We also offered species trails to sensitise residents to the habitats of animals and the importance of their existence in urban areas. The students then identified possible meeting points and places for residents in Neuperlach, which were evaluated according to which places could also be appropriated by animals.
The result is a modular wooden structure that offers appropriate space for people, animals and plants. The prototype can be dismantled and relocated as required.
