Digital tools for participatory urban development
February 2024. What data from the city's Digital Twin can be used for participation toolkits? How can we combine the perspectives of different stakeholders, experimental forms of collaboration and geodata with physical experiences of urban mobility?
At the end of the winter semester, students from the Chair of Architectural Informatics/the Chair of Urban Design at the Technical University of Munich presented their designs for the NEB programme "Mobility Meeting Point". The ideas presented ranged from gaming-based participation via app to concrete design using modules and its translation into virtual space to the digital recording of path and street conditions by communities via app.
The "Mobility NEBourhoods" NEB Action is not just developing the multifunctional "NEBourhood Hubs" mobility centres. Based on the results of the workshops, the team is also experimenting with participation tools that mediate between physical and virtual spaces. Explorative co-creative formats were developed in collaboration with creative professionals in order to gain new perspectives on mobility in Neuperlach. These serve as the basis for the development of the participation toolkits, which utilise and make accessible data from the city's Digital Twin.
The information collected from citizens can in turn be fed back to the cities and the planning departments. What advantages do digital participatory processes offer for urban design? Can they make it easier to access? Do they allow citizens to participate differently, or might they even lead to the discovery of new, different parameters?
In summer 2024, the tools will be tested with interested citizens in conjunction with the developed "NEBourhood Hubs".
