Entrepreneurship and urban development: a shared path toward a sustainable city
The "Hacking Neuperlach" programme as part of "Creating NEBourhoods Together" generates innovative ideas for a sustainable future. Through the programme – a combination of entrepreneurship and urban development – we create solutions that combine economic and social goals while promoting the potential of young talent.
We are testing how our vision of a sustainable city that meets the needs of everyone can become a reality. By closely interlinking education, policy and practice, we want to create resilient and inclusive urban spaces that can meet the challenges of the future. The Hacking Neuperlach teaching format is a source of inspiration and innovation that generates possible solutions and encourages their implementation.
The founding of Energiegemeinschaften München eG by our colleague Serena Keller, who has herself participated as a challenge partner in "Hacking Neuperlach", is a first example of how ecological and social commitment can go hand in hand. We hope that many more will follow!
Social Solutions
The challenges facing our cities require innovative approaches. A functioning ecosystem that relies on collaboration and co-creation is key. Such environments enable people who already have ideas for solving existing challenges to develop and successfully implement those ideas. The existence of suitable legal, financial and structural frameworks is essential to support the development of these efforts.
Entrepreneurship also offers a unique opportunity for democratic participation. The active involvement of citizens in shaping their city not only creates innovative solutions based on real challenges, but also fosters a strong sense of responsibility for their own way of living and working. This participatory approach promotes sustainable urban development that meets the needs of all.
Entrepreneurship education
Education plays a central role in this process. In order to attract a new generation of entrepreneurs to the social sector, we need entrepreneurship education that produces responsible, innovative solutions to important challenges and problems. The hands-on field of urban development represents a useful starting point for a low-threshold teaching format such as the one "Hacking Neuperlach" puts into practice.
In order to promote entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship in the long term, political decision-makers need to develop a systemic approach in order to boost the potential and capacities of such innovations.
